Catching up with Chris Brownless
Chris Brownless is the owner of North West Barber Co, an Uppercut Deluxe Ambassador and is also now heading up the UCD education program.
Like every other barber in the world, 2020 was a pretty cruddy year. Massive lockdowns, shop closures, shop openings, regulation limbos and shop closures again.
We recently caught up with Chris quickly, just to see what he has been up to.
Hey Chris, Thanks for taking the time to catch up!
How have you been? Third lockdown in the UK... sounds fun.
Hey guys, doing alright all things considered. It hasn’t been easy but knowing everyone is going through the same thing makes it a little easier to cope with I guess. I’ve just been trying my best to stay busy!
What have you been doing to keep yourself busy? How are keeping motivated!?
It’s been a really strange experience normally working in a creative job role to have that stripped away.
I was climbing the walls the first time round (Lockdown 1.0) and had to stay busy and ended up doing a pretty substantial refurb on my barbershop.
After that work dried up I realized the void still wasn’t being filled and it took me a while to figure out that it was the creativity I was missing as opposed to the “being busy” so to speak.
It sparked off a few hobbies I’ve dabbled in in the past, predominantly photography and getting outdoors.
So you’ve been taking photos? What sort of photos do you like to take?
I mainly shoot film photographs, I started film photography in 2017 before I really understood it or enjoyed it, I just stuck the cheapest roll of film I could find in a point and shoot camera in got on eBay.
Since then I’ve got way more into it and rarely leave the house without a camera on me.
I find it scratches my creative itch and it’s definitely something I’m going to keep up after lockdown(s).

Nice one mate! We will go check it out
