How to Prestyle your Hair
Ever wondered why you can’t replicate that fresh out of the barbershop look at home? Well, it’s probably because you don’t invest enough time in PRE styling your hair.
Prestyling? Yea, it’s a thing.
Prestyling is the process of getting your hair into shape BEFORE finishing with a Pomade or your preferred styling product.
Most of the time, outside of the fresh new haircut, this is what makes your look so and feel so dang good when you walk out of the barbershop.
In this article we will breakdown how to Prestyle your hair with Ryan Smith, owner of Smiths Barbers and member of the Uppercut Deluxe Collective.
To Pre Style your hair, follow these 3 key steps.
Step 1:
Take 2 or 3 pumps of Uppercut Deluxe Foam Tonic and spread it evenly through the hair. Be sure to get deep down into the roots. Foam Tonic will not only protect your hair from heat coming from the blow dryer, but it will also add a light hold to help keep it in place, but it will also add protection against heat from blow-drying.
Step 2:
Next, take a blow dryer on medium heat, medium airflow and either a Quiff Roller or Vent Brush and begin directing your hair into place.
To create volume in your hair, use the brush to create tension in your hair and hit it with the blow dryer.
Step 3:
Once you have your hair sitting in place, close to the style you are wanting, it is time to add your preferred finishing product, like Matte Pomade.
Take a finger sized scoop of product and spread it evenly across your hands. Next, begin to rake your hands through your hair – careful not to disrupt the flow you’ve created when prestyling.
After all the product has been applied to the hair, use a comb – like the CT5 Pocket Comb or CB11 Rake Comb – to comb the hair into place.
And there you have it, the perfect style.
